The Long Kiss Before Work

Use one deliberate kiss to carry desire into the rest of the day.

By Neris Avora

Use one deliberate kiss to carry desire into the rest of the day.

Something romantic to do together

Before either of you leaves, stop for a twenty-second kiss. Do not multitask. Hold the waist, face, or back and let the kiss be the whole moment. A long kiss can feel surprisingly intimate because it is chosen rather than automatic.

One concrete act of attention

Add one playful touch only if it is already welcome in your relationship: a hand on the backside, a whispered compliment, or a gentle stroke over the hips. Avoid grabbing intimate areas when your partner is distracted, rushed, or not receptive. The goal is pleasant anticipation, not pressure.

In bed: read this together

In the evening, recreate the morning kiss and let it continue. Try standing close for kissing, then move somewhere comfortable before anyone becomes physically strained. In bed, use a supported face-to-face position: one partner lies back with a pillow under the hips or knees, while the other stays close and keeps weight on forearms. Slow movement, kissing, and frequent check-ins matter more than depth or speed.

A gentle rule for the week

Enthusiasm matters more than completing the suggestion. Adjust for health, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, disability, pain, energy, privacy, contraception, and personal boundaries.
